The Deep Dungeons in Final Fantasy 14 provide both a fun side game to play as well as an alternate leveling path for your jobs. These dungeons create a save file for your character and see you climbing up an ever-changing rogue-like style set of encounters. The reason I love the Deep Dungeons is you don't need any gear to play inside them as your equipment is completely separate from the normal game world. After a certain floor level you are set to a high level so you can use more of your job's abilities, even if they are actually level 1 outside the deep dungeon. In this video we will cover both deep dungeons in the game, Palace of the Dead and Heaven on High, how to unlock them, and the strategies you need to survive them. Both deep dungeons create random levels and present a boss level to you every 10 floors. Link: 🤍 First, let's review the first deep dungeon you'll encounter: Palace of the Dead. PotD can be used to level your jobs from 1-61 if you're so inclined. To unlock access you'll need to complete "The House That Death Built" quest from Nojiro Marujiro in New Gridania. You must have first completed up to "Into a Copper Hell" in the Main Scenario questline for this quest to appear. Enter POTD by queueing up at the Wood Wailer Expeditionary Captain in Quarrymill, South Shroud. Select "Enter the Palace of the Dead". Make a save file. "Matched Party" will partner you with random people. "Fixed Party" is a party of your choosing (only the party leader can do this). POTD does not require a team composition so any roles will work. After every 10 floors your save file will be updated and you can either queue for the next 10 floors or exit. Once you beat floor 50 you'll be able to start a new save at level 51. Typically players will delete their save and re-queue for floor 51 when leveling as it tends to have the fastest queue time. Boom. You're inside the Palace. Here's what to do. You'll encounter random layouts and monsters along the way. A map in the top right tells you where everything is. One is the Cairne of Passage which is your way to the next floor, and the other is the Cairne of Return used to revive teammates who die. Both start out inactive and must be activated by killing a set number of mobs. You'll see them progress through a series of colors until they reach this light blue meaning they are active. Once active the Cairne of Passage will have a ring around it. If that ring goes dim it means one of your party members is currently in combat. The Cairne of Passage requires all players to stand inside of it to progress to the next floor. If anyone dies, the Cairne of Return will bring them back to life. Your party has a shared pool of Pomanders that any player can use. Try not to fight alone. It's easier for everyone if you drag your monsters back to the group for faster killing. Not every monster needs to be killed to progress forward. You only get real experience after every 10 floors, so if you die beforehand you get nothing so keep this in mind Stormblood brought us the next Deep Dungeon: Heaven on High that includes some new mechanics and improvements. To unlock access you'll need to complete "Knocking on Heaven's Door" given by Hamakaze in The Ruby Sea. You must have first completed up to "Tide Goes In, Imperials Go Out" in the Main Scenario Questline as well as beating Floor 50 of Palace of the Dead. To enter, speak to Kyusei in Crick in the Ruby Sea nearest to the Onokoro aetheryte crystal. Heaven on High introduces Magicite, which have their own inventory spot and randomly drop from Silver Chests. Once used, a Primal will be summoned that wipes the entire floor of enemies or does a large chunk of damage to the boss. You'll encounter open floor plans to help break up the monotony, though the Cairne of Passage works the same here. Heaven on High has Empyrean Aetherpool Arm and Armor and will be leveled the same way as Palace of the Dead, just separately. Floor 21+ can be queued for on a new save file just like floor 51 in POTD. Lastly, both Deep Dungeons continue on to higher floor levels with increasing difficulty. Generally these are simply challenges for you to engage with but doesn't provide increased XP gains. This is my subjective tier list on how good the different jobs are at clearing Palace of the Dead (as of patch 6.1) Something I forgot to mention in my analysis is that purities are more precious in PotD due to the transformation pomanders. For this reason jobs that can interrupt tend to have a little edge over those that can't. Due to the changes from Shadowbringers to Endwalker, this boss in particular has gotten harder based on a few reasons: - Lust does seemingly less damage then it did before - Adds seem to hit much harder than before To accommodate, I recommend a 1 lust / 2 Resolution strategy for this boss, instead of the 1 lust / 1 Resolution. The former strategy which I personally have used for literally years since the beginning of PoTD is no longer "safe" and its very high risk. I did it a handful of times (on Reaper, Sage, and Red Mage) and it did not feel comfortable AT ALL. On this MCH run, I employed the adjusted strategy and it felt much more safer now. Good luck out there, and hopefully this reaches everyone doing their attempts so it does not catch you by surprise!

Is WAR the best job to clear? No, it's not. The best job to clear is whatever DPS job you are the most comfortable on. Damage is king in EO. But I believe WAR is the best job to prog. Being a tank will not save you on regular monsters, but it will cut the need for potions and its rotation is so simple that you will be able to give 100% of your attention to learning the mechanics The way EO works, once you've cleared on one job you've cleared on them all because the difficulty lies mostly in knowing the monster mechanics.
