The Oakland group performed at a local high school in 1993, two years after they formed. The concert, at Jefferson High in Daly City, was sponsored by 106.1 KMEL and Sunny Delight (yeah). That same year, they released their most well-received album, 93 'til Infinity.

From the 1998 Album: "3rd Eye Vision" Hieroglyphics, also known as The Hieroglyphics Crew and Hiero, are an American underground hip hop collective based in Oakland, California. The collective was founded in the early-1990s by rapper Del tha Funkee Homosapien. The group consists of rappers from the hip-hop group Souls of Mischief including A-Plus, Tajai, Opio, and Phesto Dee as well as rappers such as Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, Casual, and Pep Love. Domino is their in-house producer with A-Plus performing production duties from time to time. As a group Hieroglyphics has released three albums, 3rd Eye Vision (1998), Full Circle (2003) and The Kitchen (2013). They have also been featured on numerous compilation albums and have collaborated with the likes of Planet Asia and 9th Wonder. In 1996, Del was ready to release his Future Development album. However, just before its release, Del was released from his recording contract with Elektra Records. Around this same time, Souls of Mischief, Extra Prolific and Casual were all released from their recording contracts with Jive Records. Frustrated, Del and the rest of Hieroglyphics decided to start their own record label, called Hieroglyphics Imperium. The group has a spiritual down to earth mindset and smooth jazzy beats. They often rhyme about the third eye which is featured on their logo. For those who know and understand what the third eye is about will understand the underlying messages better than those who do not. The mistreatment of Del & Hieroglyphics by their record labels became infamous in hip-hop circles, as a perfect example of "industry rule #4080" (record companies are shady). After Hieroglyphics' successful reemergence with their own independent label, Del & Hieroglyphics became an inspiration for some rap artists to start their own labels while keeping the lion's share of the money for themselves. Arguably the efforts of Del & Hieroglyphics paved the way for other famous independent rap labels known today, such as Roc-a-Fella Records or Rawkus Records. Through their own independent label's (Hieroglyphics Imperium) website, 🤍, the group releases singles, albums, and EPs from the group as well as its members and other artists who are signed to the label.

To mention 90s hip hop, rap groups, lyricism, freestyle, rap in general, and Oakland California, somewhere in there you have to mention Souls of mischief. To speak about classic hip hop or greatest songs ever for that matter, you have also have to mention their classic 1993 cut from their debut of the same name, 93 till infinity. It’s probably the most re rapped on hip hop beat of all time, and takes you back to one of the golden eras of hip hop no none other. An era where originality, timeless instrumentation, flawless sampling and wordplay from MCs delivering them with character and just the right braggadocios confidence were some of the main ingredients to great hip hop. Souls of Mischief wasn’t your typical rap group or stunted growth story of a great fall from grace, as in one member was fed up and chose to go solo, or illegal street activity leading to incarceration and the group falling apart, or drug addiction and other distractions at that time that you may say was the reason they fell off and didn’t become who they were supposed to. Their story is a quite simple one, of childhood friends growing up in the same area down the street from one another, that were all inspired to become rappers at an early age, knew what they liked and wanted to present themselves as, and worked hard together crafting their rap group to become those things. Classic hip hop group that no didn’t become household names and faces remembered for their success like some thought they should’ve and here’s why. Souls Of Mischief Could've Been The Best rap Group! This video was made by: Kenneth Skoubølling 🤍 Souls of Mischief From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Souls of Mischief is a hip hop group from Oakland, California, that is also part of the hip hop collective, Hieroglyphics. The Souls of Mischief formed in 1991 and is composed of emcees A-Plus, Opio, Phesto, and Tajai. History Oakland native Tajai began rhyming with future band mate A-Plus at age 8, while both were in elementary school. Tajai and Phesto met later in junior high school. Tajai later introduced A-Plus and Phesto to the remaining Souls of Mischief member, Opio, and the group informally formed in high school before making their major-label debut on Jive Records with their well-received album 93 'til Infinity, in 1993. The group is part of the hip-hop collective Hieroglyphics, with emcees Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Casual, Pep Love, Jaybiz, and producer Domino. The group participated as full members in both Hieroglyphics' studio albums: 1998's 3rd Eye Vision, and 2003's Full Circle. 93 'til Infinity is the group's highest charting album to date (#17 Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums; #85 Billboard 200), and in January, 1998, was named one of the Top 100 Rap albums by The Source magazine. The group stayed with Jive for one more album, 1995's No Man's Land, before being released from the label during that same year. The group has released two albums on the Hiero's self-owned independent label, Hieroglyphics Imperium Recordings, 1999's Focus, and 2000's Trilogy: Conflict, Climax, Resolution. On October 30, 2006, Hierocast (Hieroglyphics' official podcast), Del tha Funkee Homosapien reported that the Souls of Mischief were currently working on their next studio album with Prince Paul (De La Soul, Gravediggaz, Handsome Boy Modeling School).[citation needed] On January 6, 2009 Souls of Mischief released the Tour Stories EP produced by Domino and co-produced by Prince Paul. The song is taken from their fifth studio album, Montezuma's Revenge on Hieroglyphics Imperium.

[A 'Standard Bundle' will also be available, which includes all of the above, except the t-shirt. The 2-CD "Music Book" and T-Shirt will also be sold individually, also at 🤍GetOnDown.com] Consisting of MCs A+, Phesto, Opio and Tajai (with production by A+, Domino, Del the Funky Homosapien, Jay Biz and Casual), East Oakland's Souls of Mischief burst onto the scene in the early '90s with an impact that few other West Coast artists had at the time. Culminating in the release of their classic debut, they created a bouillabaisse that was full of West Coast swagger but - similar to The D.O.C. and Cypress Hill - had a sonic approach that could just as well have stepped off the streets of New York City. Put to tape in less than two weeks at San Francisco's Hyde Street Studios, the wide-ranging album doesn't suffer from a single freshman jitter or misstep. It's a fully realized effort, packed from start to finish with ridiculous lyricism - all carried out in impressive four-part, tag-team style - and backed by a wide range of musical possibilities, from hard boom-bap to '70s CTI-jazz-sprinkled grooviness. The album boasted three singles - "That's Where Ya Lost," "Never No More" and the title-track smash "93 'Til Infinity" (the latter would hit #72 on Billboard's "Hot 100" pop chart) - but fans to this day could argue that the suits at Jive could have thrown a dart at any song on the tracklist and picked a winner. Overall it's not a "fun in the sun" Cali album, despite the relative light-heartedness of the title track. Serious topics abound, and even brag tracks take conscious turns. "Live and Let Live" and "Anything Can Happen" showed the dark side of Oakland, where violence and tragedy are always just around the corner, to this day. And "Tell Me Who Profits" goes as far as "connecting street-level situations with the 'military-industrial complex'" (as Phesto explains). Overall, beyond the music and topics spoken upon, there was the incredible lyricism, which presented a far different side of Oakland's approach than fans had heard with Too $hort's plain-spoken brags (which isn't to say that the Souls didn't love the man born Todd Shaw.). Eric Arnold explains: "The Souls raised the bar for Bay Area rap with their highly technical, tongue-twisting cadences, structured with internal rhyme patterns... 'We were very lyrical guys,' Opio says, who made a point of using vocabulary words no other emcees had used." Album Cover Animation by Olise Forel for Moving Silence 🤍 🤍 Released: September 28, 1993 93 'til Infinity is the debut album by Souls of Mischief. The group consists of four members (A-Plus, Opio, Phesto, and Tajai) and is a subgroup of the Oakland, California hip-hop collective Hieroglyphics. The album was released on September 28, 1993. The sound of their debut is characteristic of the distinct style explored by the collective, including a rhyme scheme based on internal rhyme and beats centered around a live bass and obscure jazz and funk samples. 93 'til Infinity is often heralded as the best album to come out of the Hiero Golden Age, a period in the early-to-mid-nineties during which the collective released several critically acclaimed albums (including Del tha Funkee Homosapien's No Need for Alarm and Casual's Fear Itself) and rose to national prominence. 93 'til Infinity was propelled into success by its title track and lead single, which reached #72 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also featured singles "That's When Ya Lost" and "Never No More" which reached the Hot Rap Singles but never charted on The Billboard Hot 100. According to Allmusic author Steve Huey, "Although the title cut is an underappreciated classic, 93 'til Infinity makes its greatest impression through its stunning consistency, not individual highlights." Huey also goes on to remark that 93 'til Infinity is "one of the most slept-on records of the '90s". 🤍 Montezumas Revenge Souls of Mischief 2009 Ever since their aptly titled breakout single "93 'Til Infinity," Oakland's Souls of Mischief (and their larger collective Hieroglyphics) have been steadily putting out quality hip-hop, touring the globe, and expanding their diverse business empire. It's been almost a decade since they released a proper Souls album, but without a doubt, it was worth the wait. Montezuma's Revenge has everything we've come to love from Phesto, Opio, A-Plus, and Tajai, specifically, a dazzling display of lyrical superiority, tight songwriting, action-packed interplay, and funk-heavy beats. On the production side of things, Domino sounds sharp as usual, but legendary maestro Prince Paul also joins the fun, proving that he hasn't lost a step since the old Stetsasonic and early De La Soul days. They pull off the nearly impossible task of updating a sound without going overboard, still sounding familiar without being redundant. Great music abounds here, don't miss the Cali cookout jam "Home Game," travelogue rap "Tour Stories," word-association gem "Poets," and the ferocious banger "For Real Y'all."

© 1993 Jive Records off tha 1993 Hip-Hop Klassic "93 'Til Infinity", by Souls of Mischief. they are 1 of the few Hip-Hop artists of tha 90's that show'd that tha West had more to offer to Hip-Hop than just Gangsta Rap, tho don't get me wrong, i'm still damn'd glad Gangsta Rap was enter'd into my life. but it was still nice to see that this type of underground flavor wasn't just limited to just tha East & MidWest, but was spreadin' all over [wait.....that sounded kinda sketchy, didn't it? lol]. shouts out to my cuz Ill Will for introducin' me to 3 new & beautiful things when i was 12: his Aiwa tape player, which, beside from soundin' dope as hell thanx to tha Bass Boost & quality headphones that it rock'd, had a REVERSE BUTTON [!!!], but also had a DIRECTION SWITCH on dem jointz [holy shit i was in heaven!!], Slick Rick's "The Great Adventures Of...", ANNND NWA's "Straight Outta Compton" [look forward to seein' BOTH of those jointz here in tha near future y'all]. anywho, enjoy dem shitz. Disclaimer: i only own/own'd this CD/music, not the rights & whatnot. i'm not tryna step on any toes at all, i just feel that real shit should be heard, period. so whether you're hearin' this joint for the 100th time, or this is the 1st time it has hit your eardrums, do enjoy dem shitz. & please show your support for good music & go cop this ill shit for yo'self. until the next y'all..... 1
