Carvoeiro is a small village located in the municipality of Lagos in the South of Portugal. It's only 30 minutes drive away from Albufeira, whose nightlife is the liveliest in the Algarve. Located 5 km from the city of Lagoa, the town of Carvoeiro offers a group of small beaches cut by rocky cliffs, with clear waters and fine sand, forming paradisiacal summer resorts. Walking along the sea is one of the most beautiful walks that can be advised to those who visit Carvoeiro discovering not only the beauty of the beaches but also appreciating the testimonies that history has left in its architectural heritage. The site of the Algar Seco is fantastic, with the harmonious set of its rocks that form authentic balconies and natural windows on the sea. The western side (right at the fork) climbs down to a curious series of rock formations and honeycomb-pitted strata. The most noticeable feature is the limestone pinnacle, but more interestingly is the cave fondly known as “A Boneca” (the doll). The short cave passage leads to a small chamber and the most famous viewpoint of Carvoeiro, two eroded arches with views out over the deep blues of the ocean. The “A Boneca” cave name originates from the seaside exterior, which resembles a doll, with the two cave arches forming the eyes of the doll. Sami zobaczcie i oceńcie ;) W formacjach skalnych słynna Marinha skrywa jeszcze jeden tajemniczy skarb czyli serce. Serce które zauważą tylko spostrzegawcze osoby. Shops, bars and restaurants rise steeply from the small arc of beach that is the focus of the town, with holiday villas sprawling across the hillsides beyond. It's prettier and more laid-back than many of the Algarve's bigger resorts, but its diminutive size means that it gets full to bursting in summer. Carvoeiro is an Algarve fishing village turned tourist hot spot located five kilometers south of Lagoa. Built into steep red sea cliffs, the once-attractive village has mushroomed since the 1960s to accommodate (mainly in self-catering apartment blocks) the hordes of tourists who come every Summer to soak up the sun and escape the more hectic pace of towns such as Lagoa, Albufeira and Portimao. Backed by hills, Carvoeiro centres around a picturesque cove with a sandy and sheltered beach, although it does get very busy in high season. Better and quieter beaches can be found close by at Praia do Centianes and Benagil. The village (technically a town since 2001) was formerly known as Praia do Carvoeiro. The name is thought to derive from 'Caboiere', the old word for an Islamic-Medieval hamlet of fishermen. Carvoeiro has a colourful history of pirates and naval attacks, stretching back to Roman times. The most famous battle took place in 1544 between a fleet of Portuguese ships and the notorious Turkish pirate Xarramet. To the west of the town is an old ruined fort, which was built in 1670 as part of the Algarve's coastal defences. Very little of the fort survives although the site is also home to the shrine of Nossa Senhora, a chapel overlooking the sea which is said to pre-date the fort. 1 km east of the beach are the impressive rock formations of Algar Seco. It's not a big beach, nor does it have the fantastic arches of other nearby beaches such as Praia da Marinha beach, Albandeira beach or Praia de Coelha beach, but if you're looking for great beach vibes, summer fun and the best cliff jumping in the Algarve, this beach is perfect. Unfortunately, this was VFC's last day of a quick Algarve holiday - a plenty good reason to head to one of Portugal's best beaches. Off we drive towards Carvoeiro, where Carvalho beach lies just outside of Lagoa, not too far from Lagos. Approaching the beach from above, it's such a spectacular sight, with the high cliffs soaring around the beach area, looking down at the beautifully clear blue water. The tide is in today, meaning there will plenty of Cliffjumping going on. Carvalho offers a couple of fine cliff jumping spots, a modest cliff jump for the beginners and then a soaring one for the brave. The sun is shining, the water is crisp and refreshing - and the cliffjumping is money. After a really hard and tough work day at one of the Algarve's best beaches, we head to Armacao de Pera for some dinner on the waterfront. This makes for a charming view that you can see on many postcards of the Algarve. The sea here is nice and clean but can be a little unpredictable. Sometimes the sea is very calm, but it can have strong waves at times. Be careful with children in the water. Also, beware that the sea gets deep quite quickly. The temperature of the water can be really cold, but in the summer you will find plenty of people in the water. After all, swimming can be very refreshing on a hot day. The sand on this beach is quite sharp and coarse. It can be a bit hard on the feet. There are also many shells on the beach.
