While the screen takes up quite a bit of real estate on the dash, I can't deny the benefit of a huge screen when using infotainment functions. Sync 3 is already one of our favorite multimedia systems, with an easy-to-use interface, and this new version is just bigger and better. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard with Sync 3, and the Explorer ST has a strong 4G LTE Wi-Fi connection. The media screen in the Ford Explorer comes as either a standard 8" landscape or optional 10.1" portrait media screen. While the screen is still on Ford's last gen Sync3 system, it offers good functionality with support for wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. That means you can use factory navigation or use map applications on your phone like Google Maps or Waze! One thing I'd like to see is Ford utilizing more of the screen real estate with the backup camera and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay but that may not be here until the Explorer gets upgraded to include the newer gen Sync4 system. Don't drive while distracted. Use voice-operated systems when possible; don't use handheld devices while driving. Some features may be locked out while the vehicle is in gear. Not all features are compatible with all phones. SYNC Connect includes complimentary 5-year subscription for remote features excluding Wi-Fi hotspot, and starts with vehicle sale date. Subscription is subject to compatible 4G network availability. Evolving technology/cellular networks may affect future functionality. Certain restrictions, 3rd-party terms, or message/data rates may apply.
