Get Surfshark VPN at 🤍 and enter promo code SAM to get 83% off and 3 months for free! In September 2016, I travelled to North Korea to attend the country's first ever air show; Wonsan AirShow. It was the most exotic air show I have ever attended, with a line-up of the rare Soviet vintage fleet of Air Koryo, the usual off limits of the North Korean Air Force, many joy flights on Air Koryo and the possibility to meet with North Koreans freely at the air show. The air show was an unqualified smash hit! showing off North Korea’s aviation scene and bringing together foreign visitors and locals without hindrance, for the first time in the country’s history. In the video, I also share what's it like to fly on Air Koryo's exotic fleet. From the modern Tupolev 204 to the vintage classic IL-18, IL-62, IL-76 and Tu-154. It is definitely an exotic experience you don't want to miss!
This video shows you inside North Korea and their one star airline; Air Koryo. (only one star airline in the world by Skytrax rating) You get an idea what's it like to fly on Air Koryo. I am also showing you some behind the scenes footage from my 3 visits to the DPRK. For aviation enthusiasts, the up-coming tour is in October. For more info: 🤍

BUSINESS CLASS ON NORTH KOREA 1 STAR AIRLINE My last day in North Korea! Had such an amazing experience! I got the train into the country and I’m flying out of the country on North Korea’s only airline and it’s also the worlds only 1 star airline called Air Koryo! I’ve got a business class seat so I was interested to see what it would be like! With Air Koryo there is no first class, only business class and economy as the flight is only 2 hours back to Beijing! The arrangements for the tie-up between South Korea’s two big airlines are ongoing. In November 2020, Korean Air announced it would spend $1.3 billion buying a 63.9% stake in local competitor Asiana. The deal would see a single South Korean full-service airline in the skies. So where is this merger now? Korean Air Lines Flight 007 (also known as KAL007 and KE007) was a scheduled Korean Air Lines flight from New York City to Seoul via Anchorage. On September 1, 1983, the airliner serving the flight was shot down by a Soviet Su-15 interceptor near Moneron Island, west of Sakhalin Island, in the Sea of Japan. The interceptor's pilot was Major Gennadi Osipovich. All 269 passengers and crew aboard were killed, including Lawrence McDonald, representative from Georgia in the United States House of Representatives. The aircraft was en route from Anchorage to Seoul when it flew through prohibited Soviet airspace around the time of a U.S. reconnaissance mission. The Soviet Union initially denied knowledge of the incident, but later admitted the shoot down, claiming that the aircraft was on a spy mission. The Politburo said it was a deliberate provocation by the United States to test the Soviet Union's military preparedness, or even to provoke a war. The White House accused the Soviet Union of obstructing search and rescue operations. The Soviet military suppressed evidence sought by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) investigation, notably the flight data recorders, which were eventually released eight years later after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The incident was one of the tensest moments of the Cold War and resulted in an escalation of anti-Soviet sentiment, particularly in the United States. The opposing points of view on the incident were never fully resolved. Consequently, several groups continue to dispute official reports and offer alternative theories of the event. The subsequent release of KAL 007 flight transcripts and flight recorders by the Russian Federation has clarified some details. As a result of the incident, the United States altered tracking procedures for aircraft departing Alaska. The interface of the autopilot used on airliners was redesigned to make it more ergonomic. In addition, the event was one of the most important single events that prompted the Reagan Administration to allow worldwide access to the United States military's GNSS system, which was classified at the time. Today this system is widely known as GPS.

Consider joining here from £3 per month: 🤍 Twitter: 🤍 Music/Personal Channel: 🤍 Regrettably, passenger planes have been shot down. Such events are unfortunately not relegated to the confines of aviation history because as recently as 2020, civilian planes have been shot down in either acts of aggression or by pure accident. Perhaps one of the more peculiar instances of a shootdown event came in 1978. A passenger plane belonging to Korean Airlines was intercepted and fired upon by the Soviet Union. Flying as flight 902, the Boeing 707 left Paris for a long flight to Seoul with 109 occupants on board. Their route that day should have kept them well away from the Soviet Union but still the USSR saw it was necessary to intervene, but why? This incident is not to be confused with Korean Airlines flight 007 which was also shot down by the Soviet Union in 1983 killing 269 people. Korean Airlines Flight 902 was an incident which not only demonstrated a major navigational error but also demonstrated a quirk of not the plane but the planet as a whole. 기내식 카페부터 특수화물 운송까지...코로나 시대 돌파구 찾는 항공 업계 The pandemic has threatened the survival of many airlines around the world. South Korean carriers have had to take extraordinary measures to make it through, and some have been quite creative. They're serving in-flight meals in cafes on land, for people who want to remember what it's like to travel. And they're removing passenger seats from their planes to make room for cargo. Kim Sung-min reports. "Can you show me your ticket please?" "I'm in front of a boarding gate with my airline ticket and it seems like I'm all ready to board a flight. But in fact, I'm not at an airport, but at a cafe in Hongdae, which serves in-flight meals." South Korean carrier Jeju Air has opened this cafe for those missing air travel. A kind greeting from the flight attendants, mock plane windows and popular in-flight meals could bring back memories of flights to exotic places without having to board an actual plane. "I guess the fact that I can enjoy the excitement of boarding a plane here makes this in-flight meal even better here." This drawing from customers saying "cheer up aviation industry" shows how this place could bridge the gap until life gets back to normal. "All the flight attendants here including me were very touched and I hope the pandemic ends soon so I can serve the customers up in the air again." COVID-19 has halted most of overseas travel,... but not the actual flights. As the number of South Koreans travelling overseas plummeted by 84-point-2 percent last year... Korean Air took the seats out of some passenger planes and turned them into cargo planes. More than 4-thousand-500 flights carried freight instead of passengers in 2020,... including the COVID-19 vaccines that require complex technology like cold-chain systems. "We received an international standard verification for pharmaceutical logistics. We are also one of the leading carriers for handling special cargo that requires high tech including artworks from the Louvre and Musee d'Orsay." While the carrier's sales from passenger flights decreased by 74 percent last year,....cargo sales were up 66 percent. Thanks to this, while airlines around the world posted losses, Korean Air in 2020 managed to post an operating profit of 2-hundred-13 million U.S. dollars. Many people are hoping that air travel can soon get back to normal as the vaccine rollout picks up pace, but until then, airlines will keep looking for innovative ways to stay in business. At 05:00 the aircraft took off again from runway 32, bound for Seoul (SEL). The flight was cleared directly to the Bethel VOR beacon and then on to the Romeo 20 route. However, the aircraft started diverging from it's intended course and passed 12 miles North of the Bethel beacon. While approaching the Kamchatka peninsula, six Soviet Air Force MiG-23 fighters were scrambled. Because a US Boeing RC-135 intelligence plane was flying in the area east off Kamchatka, the Soviet defence forces probably thought the B747 radar echo to be the RC-135. KAL 007 left Russian airspace over the Okhostk Sea and the fighters returned to their base. Passing abeam the Nippi waypoint (4 hours after takeoff), the aircraft was 185 miles off course and headed for Sakhalin. Two Soviet Sukhoi Su-15 fighters were scrambled from the Dolinsk-Sokol airbase at 17:42 UTC and 17:54 respectively. At 18:16 UTC flight 007 re-entered Soviet airspace. At 18:22 the Soviet command ordered destruction of the target (for the second time). Two air-to-air missiles were launched by one of the fighters and struck the Boeing at 18:26 (August 31, 03:26 local time September 1. Cabin pressure was lost and the aircraft suffered control problems, causing the Boeing to spiral down and crash into the sea. (Source: Aviation Safety Network Database)
The year 2020 is the darkest year yet for the aviation industry. As COVID-19 spread like wildfire, governments around the world were forced to close their borders in a last-minute effort to curb the spread of the virus. Airports were closed. But on this trip we found a better deal on Asiana Airlines, which is another major airline based in South Korea. As soon as we entered the airplane, the service was great, and we had baby friendly seats, so we were all the way at the front of the airplane with plenty of leg space. Saat dalam perjalanan ke Seoul dari Anchorage , Alaska, pesawat tersebut menyimpang lebih dari 322 km dari jalur yang dijadwalkan dan memasuki wilayah udara Soviet. On the night of 31st August, Soviet Union detected an unknown aircraft heading to a sensitive naval base. They were convinced that this was a US spy plane. They decided to shoot down this plane. Gennadi Osipovich was the mission executor. He fired a warning salvo. The plane started to change direction. However he was ordered to destroy the plane. They finally realised the plane was Korean Airlines' flight 007 from Anchorage to Seoul. 267 people were killed. At first they refused they shot an airline.
