The law of nature is strange and fascinating. Unexpected and full of surprises like this rare behaviour of Jungle Babblers caught on camera. Now we know Mynas and Crows are not the only thieves in the bird world! It all starts with this once abandoned Common Crow nest sitting in an open fork of a tree at our Wilderness Orchard in New Delhi. Our crew took the trouble of making clay or mud ka eggs and painting them bluish to look like real crow eggs. The fake eggs are placed inside the nests and action follows. Notice how the bird picks up the large eggs in its beak. But of course the eggs are too heavy for the bird. What is the Jungle Babbler exactly up to? Steal the eggs for food or displace it to steal the nest? Or is it just playing out its curiosity? Babblers are normally curious birds that love to gossip. They are not known to steal eggs or do damage to other birds' nests! A duo of Jungle Babbler (Turdoides striata) hatchlings cranes for the parent's attention from below their nest from which they have prematurely fallen. The nest seemed to be in a bamboo thicket with dry bamboo leaves. The parent drops in food in the beak of the bigger chick and seems to ignore the smaller one. Notice the juvenile plumage on the two chicks. Notice the chicks with wide open beaks and shaking their neck in slow motion. A flock of Jungle Babblers or Turdoides striata is seen on the bamboo fence outside the Wilderness Orchard in New Delhi. This flock looks to be more than 10 individuals 'Babbling' away. Jungle Babblers are social birds and seen in groups of four or five and more. They indulge in mock fights among themselves and allopreening. Allopreening is the behaviour in birds in which they preen each others feathers. It is a socially interactive behaviour. Watch the Jungle Babblers mockfight as seen up close. Jungle Babbler is one of the beautiful bird species endemic to the Indian subcontinent.
When the female crow has gone out looking for more nesting materials and a break, a group of Jungle Babblers come and settle in to the nest, and inspect its construction! Nosey little things sit on the eggs, chitter-chatter about the construction quality and build and decide to move on in time for the crow to return. Does this accusation follow? "Who slept in my bed?" Mama bear asks... This footage is part of the broadcast stock footage archive of Wilderness Films India Ltd., the largest HD and 4K collection from South Asia. A flock of angry looking Jungle Babblers (Turdoides striata) allopreening and ruffling their feathers on a Callistemon branch. The bolder ones are seen nest to a swimming pool taking a bath in the excess water spilling from the pool. This behaviour is common in Jungle Babblers which are usually seen in groups of more than four birds. They are noisy and found calling in flocks. Notice the 'eyebrows' which are darker than the pale eyes and make them look like the cartoon character 'Angry Bird'. Whn i went to Dharpur Patan for exam i got chance to do birding near by area. This area is know to me. Whn i see this bird preening i start recoding the video. See how much time they spend to make the parasite free. Some info about bird: This familiar ash-brown colored babbler has a yellow bill and a dark brow in front of the eye that contrasts with its pale eye giving it a perpetual “angry” look. It has vague streaking on the upperparts, diffuse mottling on its throat, and barring on its tail. The multiple races vary slightly in color and strength of markings except the race somervillei of the NW peninsula which has dark brown outer wing feathers that contrast with the rest of the wing. They are often seen in noisy flocks hopping on the ground and flicking litter in search of food. ( Source : Ebird.org ) Thank you for watching our videos. The Jungle Babbler (Argya striata) are all untidy-looking, earthy-brown birds about the size of mynas. They go about in little flocks, thus it gets the name “Seven Sisters,” or “Sath Bhai (seven brothers).” They feed largely on the ground, seeking insects among dead leaves. While feeding they keep up a constant chatter which every now and then grows very loud. They sounding like a combination of a squeak and the groans of a revolving axle that requires to be oiled. They continually jerk the tail, which has the appearance of being very loosely inserted. Their flight is feeble and laborious. The Jungle Babbler bird is abundant in Asia and becomes rarer in south India. Where it is largely replaced in the plains by the two next species. The Large Grey Babbler (Argya malcomi) or Gangai, is more abundant even than C. canorus. It maybe recognized by its long tail. The three outer pairs of tail feathers are white very conspicuous during flight. The note is a loud harsh quey, quey, quey. The bird is commoner than thought. This is a non-migratory bird, normally found in forest and bushes. #junglebabbler #babbler #babblerspecies Content - 🤍 Hit & Subscribe - 🤍 How to build an Aviary - 🤍 Stop Your Parrot From Biting, Train Tricks, Speech - 🤍 Visit Website: 🤍 Follow us on Instagram: 🤍 Follow on Pinterest: 🤍 Follow on Twitter: 🤍 2nd Website - 🤍 Thanks for visiting our channel your support is really helping us to grow a good channel. The jungle babbler was described by the French zoologist Charles Dumont de Sainte Croix in 1823 based on specimens from Bengal. He coined the binomial name Cossyphus striatus.[3] This babbler was formerly placed in the genus Turdoides but following the publication of a comprehensive molecular phylogenetic study in 2018, it was moved to the resurrected genus Argya.[4][5] There are several named geographically isolated subspecies that show plumage shade differences.[6] Former race rufescens of Sri Lanka is considered a full species.
